Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Had the worst service there that i have ever had. Her name was Kennedy. She didn't come get our drink order until we had set there several minutes. The food was fine although i asked for a side of sour cream and didn't get it until i was finished eating. She brought our check before we were finished. When we ordered more she rolled her eyes and said we could have another drink but three is the limit. We were not loud or obnoxious. This was at noon on a Saturday and a few of us girls were just having lunch and a couple drinks. The customers next to us were also complaining about her service and attitude. Will request anyone but her in the future.

Decent for chain restaurant Mexican food. I've been here a few times, most recently with a larger group of people. I would agree with a previous review and say that this is a family-friendly environment and nice for larger groups outings (mine was a work Christmas party). Carlos is reasonably priced and I'm pretty sure you can find coupons in the Sunday paper fairly often. Service has always been standard here. I recommend making reservations (especially if you plan to dine during prime dinner hours or on the weekends), otherwise you'll be waiting. If I'm going to eat a burrito, taco or nachos on this side of town though, you'll find me at Panchero's.

Worst Mexican food I've had in a looooong time. Haven't been here in 2 years, and it's gone so far downhill. Too bad, so sad! Don't bother!

Second visit in a week. Previously I didn't like this place but the food and service is really great right now. Both servers were really good and the food was tasty and hot. Chicken picado is my wives favorite.

Great Mexican Food for a decent price. We eat here quite often and almost always get great food and service. Always plenty of food in the servings and if you have room be sure to order desert. They have a small bar for your adult type thirst, also have kid's night for the little ones. They have improved a lot over the last couple of years, so don't be afraid to give them another chance.

Everything was godawful. The cheese was watery, and burnt in places. It tasted of nothing. The onions weren't cooked at all, and tasted rubbery (microwave, I'd bet). The meat was flavorless and overcooked. The soda was diluted. The server was seemingly oblivious, and was only interested in pushing apps and desserts. My daughter was mortified by how bad her quesadilla was. She said, and I can back her up on this, that she can make a better quesadilla. The cheese wasn't even fully melted. The kids plate was so used that it was starting to deteriorate. The atmosphere of howling children, and loud rednecks was offensive to say the least. They should just burn this place down and start over, or make it a parking lot. That would be an improvement. Absolutely horrific experience.

Not really any vegetarian options on the menu. When I asked the server for a recommendation, she told me they can make anything vegetarian. That's not terribly helpful. Although I did like the server otherwise. Food was edible.

I was not impressed - not even a little... I was in Cedar Rapids visiting my parents for a few days and we decided to have a family dinner at Carlos O'Kelly's. Our group arrived around 6pm on a Friday evening and waited 40 minutes for a table!! The most ridiculous part about this is that there were several large tables that sat empty while the entry way was packed full of people. It made no sense.. The food was mediocre - at best. My plate had obviously been sitting under a warmer for an extended period of time, judging by the gross film on top of my beans & the way my burrito was stuck to my plate. The worst part was when they brought my nephew's mac & cheese to the table still in it's plastic freezer pouch they warmed it up in. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect homemade mac & cheese --- but that was just tacky. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She kept our drinks full and checked on us often. She was probably the only good part of the evening.. but then she messed up our check. Boooo... All around BAD.. just plain bad. I understand CR isn't a huge place, but there's definitely better spots to go for dinner - Mexican or otherwise.

Not sure this place is four stars I think I over reacted on how good I thought this place was, its way americanised mexican food and the kids that work here have no clue our seriver tonight was very good, but the hostest could figure out that 7 people don't fit at a 6 person table. The food was good but it seemed a little pricey.

This place can benefit from Restaurant Impossible. They need a lot of help. I heard they used to be great. I gave it one star because this system doesn't allow for 0 stars.

Wife's food was cold in the middle. Waitress was even colder. My fried ice cream was freezer burnt. Will never go again.

Food and service were great! Enchiladas San Carlos were wonderful! It's a chain, so it's not authentic, but still good food.
